Will be staying at Marriott. What's the best way/op to do Watamula with?

definitely Ocean Encounters West. I'm not sure if any other ops run there? Possibly Sunset Waters but if you're driving out west it makes sense to go all the way out. (And make a day of it, have lunch at the place next to the shop over the beach, then do some shore dives from OEW dock as it's an excellent site.)

Hey there RJP... for sure go to Ocean Encounters West!! They go there all the time!!

While you are up there... also check out the house reef too!! Playa Khalki (aka. Alice in Wonderland)

Both dives are awesome and the staff is great!! You won't be disappointed!!

Here is there contact info: ph#: 5999-864-0102

Will definitely connect with you as I get closer to trip time - we'll be there in August.

Sounds like Playa Kalki is a good spot to spend the day with the family. My wife and kids are non-divers, so I need a place where they can spend the morning on the beach while I'm diving. Then we can hang out for the afternoon. I'm assuming there's facilities, bathroom, restaurant, etc there? (One of the write-ups I read somewhere said the bathroom was "unique" but didn't elaborate. What's that about?)

The unique bathroom at Kalki..... could be the big tree.
It is a great place for the family to hang out, snorkel, eat, while you dive.
Much more crowded on the weekend and beach chairs/shade are limited, so go early.
It is a good 30-40 minute drive from the Marriott unless you're Sunshine.:daisy:

And then it's a 10 minute walk ;)
Let's see if I can attach this....

Yes! pretty good for a computer dummy. Anyway. This is the 2009 OEW boat schedule. They go to Watamula on Thursday afternoons and go quite often on other afternoons on request. It's just a 5 minute boat ride away. If the non divers drop you off, Shete Boca/Boca Pistol is just 3 miles East and a great place for them to spend an hour or two walking around. Watamula on terra firma is just a mile and a half from Playa Kalki. It's very warm to walk in the afternoon so they may want to take the car there. But if they are into hiking, David has cleared a number of trails up and around the hills. Of course there is always snorkeling, a massage or lunch available there as well.
Good call on the boat rides, Stan. It's hard to tell here looking out at the bay. It almost always looks so calm. Our vis has improved since a week or so ago.

The sites for afternoon boat dives at OE West are often changed at the request of the divers. When we were there in December, I think they dove Watamula 4 afternoons. Depending on the current, these can be moored dives or drift dives. You almost have to do it twice, since the first time you dive it you forget to look for the sea life, the coral formations are so fantastic. It takes a concerted effort to look for critters. ;)

I understand they have rebuilt the beach there since last November's storm. There is a restaurant there - food is good - and snorkeling is good on the east side of the dock. I think you can rent chairs and umbrellas.

Hey RJP!
Look forward to hearing from you as your trip gets a little closer!!

Playa Khalki is an awesome place for your family! There are full facilities there including a nice beach restuarant, bathrooms right at the Ocean Encounters West dive shop and also at the restuarant plus as someone as already mentioned, for rent lounge chairs and shade. As far as "unique" bathrooms, not sure what the context is there. I know from personal experience that they are clean and well maintained at both facilities, no doubt.

Take care and see you soon. Anymore questions, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Safe diving!

Bryan
