Hi folks,

New diver here. Just finished my confined water dives today in NYC, where I live. I would like to travel somewhere warm Memorial Day weekend to do my open water dives. Somewhere relatively close to an airport, as I'm not keen on the idea of driving several hours. I was thinking Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach, as both these places are close, and have relatively inexpensive flights and hotels. Any thoughts? All suggestions are appreciated.

thanks,

Simon

Fly to FLL and drive to Key Largo.

However if you plan to dive in NYC area, get your OW cert there.

IMHO
Once you're on the plane, it's not that much farther in terms of distance or cost to go to someplace great, like Cozumel that has good ops to do your referral. There are inexpensive hotels to stay in, like Pepitas. I dive with Pelagic Ventures when I go there.

Fly to West Palm Beach, and do check-out's with SB's own ScubaKevDM at Underwater Explorers.

His name is on the back of my OW card, and I would happily send anyone - friend, family, or stranger - to him.
