I will be at the Lawrence Welk Resort in late June early July looking to do a two tank dive nearby. I use to live in So. Cal but had no interest in diving then, now being in NY and usually only diving on vacation looking for nearby spot, not sure if there are shore dives or boat dives, conditions. Do I need a full 7mm wetsuit?
I am hoping to find a shore dive so my family can relax on the beach while I dive.
Any dive recommendations or dive shops would be appreciated.
Thanks

Escondido is in-land. Closest spot is Oceanside (20 miles West), for a possible boat dive, but conditions out of Oceanside are not often good.

Better to go 25 miles South to central (coastal) San Diego and explore the possibilities. A quick web search will reveal.)

Possibly norht to San Clemenete or Dana Point will garner something doable.

It's a bit of a drive (20 miles?) but I'd go to LaJolla. Dive the Ecological Reserve at the Cove, the family can sit on the beach there and watch your stuff. Or walk around LaJolla if they get bored. Scuba Diving at La Jolla Cove

btw, this is no understatement...lol:
Designated parking is available along Coast Boulevard, but competition for an open space is often fierce.

LaJolla Shores/Kellogg Park is another spot. Scuba Diving at La Jolla Shores Swim out to the submarine canyon and drop down. Watch for big pelagics that come in to feed.
