Where to dive in NZ in january

Thanks, decided to take One NZ yesterday, will see bout it.
So is Poor knight the only place where diving is okeish to scuba dive in NZ or are there any other places ?

No, you can dive around the whole country if you wish. The Poor Knights stand out as a travel destination because it has the warmest water, is offshore (better visibility) and has been a long standing marine park, plus there is some tourist infrastructure in the area.

There are a few wrecks in Northland worth doing and diving any of the offshore islands in the northeast would be similar, but probably less fish as they are not marine reserves. As you head south, the water gets colder. Not much recreational-style diving is done on the west coast as sea conditions are wild. That said, a lot of people dive there to harvest sea food.

Northland is also great. Lots of reefs and the wreck of HMNZS Canterbury.

And then in the South Island we have:
The Mikail Lermontov (14 year old Russian Cruise Ship that sank in 1986). Can be stunning diving for all experience levels.
Easy nice diving off the Aramoana Mole just outside Port Chalmers (Dunedin's Harbour).
World class diving below the halocline in Milford Sound.
