or, Del Sur for the BEST empanadas, just south of Kinta's on 5th

I'll second Gdog on the empanadas at Del Sur. Only 15 or 18 pesos apiece and lots of variety to choose from for lunch, dinner or dessert. We went there one evening with our own bottle of wine and Rene' and his wife served up basket after basket to us upstairs on the balcony as we watched the sun set over the rooftops of Cozumel - a great evening and a great host. Dinner and dessert for two including a generous tip - $22. Memories of Cozumel - priceless!

Casa Denis, good food, go for the yucatan style cooking, service fair, prices not bad.
I liked Casa Dennis too. Would recommand the stuffed pepper with shrimp and cheese (chile relleno con queso y camarones) and the tortilla soup (IMO, more flavorful than La Choza's).
The yucatan style fish (in achiote sauce, same as the pibil) in itself was good, but the veggies that came with it were an odd match.

This is all so much fun...now. In 1992 the food was uniformly awful. Back then you had your choice of Karen's Pizza where they used Vienna Sausage for their sausage pizza, or Pepe's Grill with a 3 item salad bar. We really are lucky that all started to change in about 1997--and now all the wonderful choices you all have listed, reminds me of the bad ol' days.

I suspect that more people may be coming for the food than for the diving!

some places i remember from that pre gringo del barco era-
los palmas which is still very good imo
jeanne's waffle house which i have heard reopened under the original owner in the flamingo hotel.
there was a coffee house owned by a french woman. it was near the square and doubled as an art studio. in those daze euro hippies were coming to coz and it was their gathering place.
zermott bakery was around then too.
just a little south of the bakery there was a house with no sign in front. the owner would serve you an american breakfast at her kitchen table and kids would amuse you.

Hello,

My partner and I will be heading to Cozumel in April and staying at the Occidental Grand. We would like to venture a was for the AI food for a day or two. However, we are both vegetarians. Just wondering if anyone knows of any vegetarian friendly restaurants in Cozumel. We are not expecting to find a completely vegetarian restaurant, but maybe a few places that we could check out that have vegetarian items on their menu.

Thanks!!

I really enjoyed breakfast at Tonito's around the corner from La Chosa.... on Jaurez I think

La Cozumelena on ave 10 /Calle 3 for good cheap breakfast and lunch. Los Otates on Ave 15, Los Serras on Ave 30 (both of these establishments have great local dishes, The Parrila Mission on Ave 30 (do not miss this one) and a new found wonderful place Tres Marias near the end of Ave 65. I discovered this place in February and it is absolutely great. Prices for two average around $6-9 per dish and cheaper at Los Serras and Otates.

You know some enterprising Coz boarder should find all of these on Google earth and create a batch of whatever they call those map pushpins so there is a master list with a little info on each.

Rock n' java just south of the punta langosta pier has quite a bit on their menu. They also have a noodle bar around the corner. Don't know if they have anything on their menu though.
La Choza also has a quite a few options.
Sorissi's (italian restaurant) has a couple of options, but they are on the expensive side.
Guido's might have a couple of options. At least pizza.
Margaritville might (never been in there)
There's a breakfast place down the street from Rock n' Java that i know serves stuff without meat.
