That sounds great! Haven't been there. Do you know what their hours are?

They open mid-morning or thereabouts. Close late afternoon or when they run out of fish. They used to close early afternoon but extended hours of operation a year or two ago.

You'll see lots of locals come here with their pots and pans to get takeout.

We like El Pie del Carbon (or something like that) on the corner of 5 and 6. Great wine list and great food.

Sounds great. I'll have to try it next time.

i like to eat where the locals eat. here is my list in no particular order. -
el dorado calle 7 between av10-15. breakfast and lunch only. (my favorite.)
los palmas
el moro (requires cab)
mi chalita- cochina economica a little north of deep blue
chilangos
did you say under $15. i think it would be hard to run up a bill that high at these places.
re el foco which has been mentioned. if you go there, be sure to add up your bill. several posters on another board wrote about problems and when i told a friend he looked at his bill. sure enough...

Our favorite is La Mission Parilla on 30th. This last trip, we ate there 4 times. (Yes, it is an addiction! Try the Chuletas!) We also like La Choza and El Moro. Also on the trip we ran across a little lunch place called La Flamidas. It's on 25 1/2 block south of the intersection with Morelos. Little place - very quiet both days we ate there, but the Verde Enchiladas were excellent. We never ate off the menu, but just picked out of the few specials for the day, which seemed to range from $5-$6 -unlss you supersized the enchilada plate which was then $7. (The DH realized too late this was way too much food! LOL!)

This page from Cozumel, My Cozumel lists some good cheap eats ... Cozumel Restaurants, Part 4

Even with my limited experience (so far!), the answer to your question is, way more places than you have a chance to visit! To the great suggestions above, and maybe for a change of pace, I absolutely adored the food at Midori Sushi (Calle AR Salas Sur between Avenida 15 & 20) and Rock'n Java Thai Noodle Bar (Rock 'n Java Thai Noodle Bar). And the fish tacos at Coconuts on the east side seemed divine, but it might have been the view, the company, and the Dos XX.... ;-)

I had the fish tacos at Rocky Java and they were very good, but the margaritas were great!

My wife and I liked Los Otates for their tacos and queso fundido.

I've been to most of the places already mentioned and they are all good. On the past 3 trips, I've also eaten at Costa Brava (Calle 7 between Melgar and Av.5 -- north side). It's an easy walk from the south side, the food is authentic, inexpensive, with attentive service, AND it's a nice quiet place as long as you sit inside. Also great for breakfast -- which is how we first discovered it. As far as I'm concerned it's been a real "under-the-radar" find that seems somehow overlooked. Anyone else been there recently?

the 4 you mentioned at the top are all great, here's some more:

Short list:

Pancho's Backyard: Mole, Mole, Mole
Rock'n'Java: any meal, great desserts
Ernesto's Fajita Factory: any meal
The Museum: breakfast or lunch, love this place and I don't think folks take advatage of it much.
Kina: OMG! Former Guito's chef Chirs has really made a great place here.
Guito's: Of course, lunch and dinner, very good Italian food, great pizzas (a pizza, house salad & pictcher of sangira and you've got a great lunch for 2, extreamly reasonalbe.)
La Chef: lunch & dinner
Especias: yummy! One of the son's of the owner of Casa Denis owns this place. Very good twist on South American flavored cuisine.
Prima's: Haven't been since they moved "up top", but they have always had good food. Seafood lasagna is raved by many.
French Quarter: one of our all time fav's. Sounds funny, but get Mike's ribs...some of the best I've EVER had.
Coconut's: best "fish burger" (grilled fish sandwich) ever! Lunch or late lunch only, they close at sunset.

soooo many more, but that will get you started...

How about Los Serias on 30th. Yellow building on south west corner. Opens around 7 p.m. Four of us had six tacos a piece and all cokes. The price was under $20 total including the tip. Also they have great pizza. El pastor and with pineapple is awesome. The Grande will fee four hungry folks.

Then there is Senior Diaz's place almost on the southeast of 65th ARS. Lots of locals eat there in the mornings before heading off to work. More good tacos. Here is our neigbhor.

Tortuga's on the south end of 30th for some excellent seafood.

And La Perlita on 65th Bis for more good seafood. (You might need a taxi driver for this one.)

Been going to La Pearlitas for about 8 years. We used to go to La Conchita Del Caribe but LP is far better. Camilos also has great seafood/fish dishes. We never miss either one of these. Also, if your looking for a southern island adventure......try Albertos Beach Bar......The best $10 grilled conch you(I) have ever had. Its also a never miss since we always stay at Residencias Reef Condos.
