Where shall I take my Open Water dive

I'm a novice diver and I'm SO GLAD I was certified locally prior to a tropical vacation for many of the reasons stated above. I will add another concern I had - I knew you aren't supposed to touch the reef & I was a little concerned if I had any buouyancy troubles. Well, after learning to hover wearing a 7mm suit with the appropriately larger amount of weight needed for it, it was SO EASY in the Carribbean! I barely had to think about adjusting buoyancy and it felt very natural. I was able to relax and enjoy the scenery. And wearing the lighter weight belt was a treat.
 
Thanks again for everybody’s advice and opinions. Having read all the advice I finally decided to do the dive locally (over the weekend) and am now a certified PADI OW diver. I am sooooo glad I did.
The cold was not as bad as I had imagined although all the extra protection and weights were cumbersome. However by the second dive I couldn’t wait to complete all the exercises so that we could explore the quarry. On the fourth dive we had nearly 25 mins of exploring. I was all over the place and hardly had control over my bouyancy but it was such fun. Our instructor and his assistant were wonderful and very patient with all our awkwardness. We are hoping to have at least one more practice dive in the quarry before our vacation in 4 weeks time. I think we are a family well on our way to being hooked!!

Congratulations on your accomplishment!!! I'm glad to hear that you did the dives up here. Now you can relax on your vacation and have fun. Buoyancy will come with practice. Congratulations again to you and your family.

Great Job! Now you can spend your entire vacation enjoying what diving should be like. Then you can look at the classes and thank the Lord that you are not in one of those. Have fun on your first trip!!!

Personally, I hate quarry diving, because I hate the cold. I still do it to keep up on my skills, and because it is still diving. I was just at the local quarry this weekend, and would not venture below 40ft because I felt too cold. I have dove in colder water then that, and felt fine, but for some reason, I was ice cold in 55degrees. I guess it did not help that I was scootering around and not kicking to stay warm. Oh well. I will stick to the 72 degree springs.
