Point Loma doesn't have much beach, cliffs to rocks/reef with a big kelp forest along much of it, quite cool.
 
Laguna is much further north, Orange County in between San Diego and LA.
 
Yes. The view is from just south of Torrey Pines Glider Port towards Scripps Canyon (shore dive), Scripps Pier (visible although the lighting is a bit weird), La Jolla Shores (shore dive), and La Jolla Cove at the point on the right.

How did you end up at the caves? Start at the Cove and turn right? Haven't tried that yet.

Sand, a few suffering palm trees and a blueish sea isn't much to go on :)
