I've dived Bonaire, the Bahamas, and various places in Florida. I have to say that my favorite place is right here in Jupiter. We have beautiful, healthy reefs, sharks that don't have to be lured to be seen (they live here, after all), Goliath Grouper, small and large tropical fish, eels, turtles, and always something that you haven't seen before no matter how much you've dived here (I saw a couple dolphin last weekend that I've never seen before). I'll probably still continue to spend money to travel to remote and resort areas, but I'll always love Jupiter the best. I'll let you know if I ever find a place that ever changes my feelings.

This could easily be a bragging thread but I’ll play!

Top of the list was Niihau, off the coast of Kauai, Hawaii.
Next would be the Manta dive on Kona.
But Catalina is fabulous as well.

I went on a trip over Labor Day weekend and had a blast, the water was warm (70 degrees) enough for wetsuits and the wrecks were awesome. We saw the Keystorm, America, Kingshorn, Vickery, Muscallonge, Robert Gaskin, Daryaw and Lillie Parsons. Although I heard that earlier in the season the viz is much better, but compared to my few experiences off the Jersey shore, 40 ft avg seemed great to me. These wrecks were mostly intact and HUGE. The history of the wrecks (some 100+ years old!!) was interesting to me also. Based on depth and current, I might not recommend these specific wrecks for newly certified divers . . . but there are many others at shallower depths and the locals know options for wrecks with less current. There is definitely something for everyone :)

My most hair raising dive to date, btw, was the Lillie Parsons at night. What a ride!!

Don't get me wrong, I love pretty fish too, so tropical reef diving anywhere is a tie. Hard to compare apples to oranges when you like them both!!

My favorite place has been Roatan, Honduras. I have been all over the Caribbean, Bermuda, Bahamas, Hawaii, FL Keys, and some freshwater lakes in SC.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the red sea. Jackson reef and the wreck of the Yolanda (toilette ship). After that it is a tossup between Fiji and Great Barrier Reef, Next would be the Bahamas -sharks galore! Roatan, Belize nice but not at top of list.

I think my favorite has been the northwest coast of Curacao (a bunch of sites close to Sunset Waters). Close behind are Bonaire and Roatan (Cocoview). Done a bunch of dives in the Keys, Bahamas and T&C. Certain dives in those places have been great, but on the average, not as fun as the other places.

I think the world of divers is divided into two large groups---those that like diving wrecks and those who don't. (There's probably a third group of folks who like both more or less equally). I'm in the group that finds "steel diving" uninteresting and much preferring the biology of the marine world.

really cool thread...

places i've dived (....and possibly left children)

Aceh
Bali
Curacao
Cartagena (Colombia)
North Sulawesi (Manado)
Santa Marta (Colombia)
Thailand (islands off Phuket & Kata Beach)

Favorite Diving...

Aceh..saw a 2m black blotched ray in the Indian ocean...blew me away

Bali....saw so much stuff; Manta point being engulfed by 2-3m Manta rays was complete spin-out; seeing the Mola-Mola at 53m on my 2nd dive of the day, plus all the other riches of Padang Bai (got attacked by BIG-ass triggerfish) and Tulamben...

Curacao...best reefs ever seen, saw 2m Barracuda in Jan '08

Cartagena (Colombia)...probably the most average diving i've done, having said that, got to dive with Dolphin mum and baby on my first dive in Cartagena!....is life weird or what?

North Sulawesi (Manado)...excellent walls

Santa Marta (Colombia)...Tayrona National Park is extremely underrated, excellent reefs and heaps of cool marine life, you really must see this place.

Thailand (islands off Phuket & Kata Beach)....Racha Noi and Yai islands off Phuket have amazing reefs and Kata beach has amazing shore and boat dives when its on-form..again, underrated).

next adventures....El Salvador in December, Curacao again (wooohoo!!) in Dec/Jan...

next year....San Andres, Cuba, Dom Republic, Costa Rica...who knows...

keep on rockin' in the free world.........

My favorite place has been Roatan, Honduras. I have been all over the Caribbean, Bermuda, Bahamas, Hawaii, FL Keys, and some freshwater lakes in SC.

Same here about Roatan---in fact, my wife made us buy a house on the beach in Sandy Bay in '94....nice wife huh----love that girl.......:blinking:

I have dove in NY, Bahamas, Mexico, and the Keys but my favorite place to Dive is Jupiter Fl I have seen on one dive 3 types of sharks an eagle ray turtles eels and Goliath grouper right at area 51 amazing place i think the best kept secret

Favorite place is so so hard really though. I love Roaton and I love Bonaire, but for different reasons.
Bonaire is a diving paradise. But the island itself is barren and lacking, everything that is there is artificial from the sand on the beach to the trees we sat under. But the diving is amazing.
Roaton on the other hand particularlly AKR is a paradise. It was probably the most romantic spot I have ever been in. If you are going with your wife or girlfriend, the diving there is excellent but the atmosphere is pure tropic paradise.
