Where can I spear fish with a kayak near Miami?

Does anybody know of a good spot in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area to launch your kayak and spear fish. I am really looking forward to diving with a kayak.

Very funny. No one wants to give up their spots.

I can tell you that you have to be 100 yards off shore to spearfish. I don't know about the Miami Key Biscayne area. From Miami to Port Everglades you will probably find better bottom closer to shore that you will further north where I am.

Your best bet would be to get a good chart, there are NOAA charts and Hot Spot charts based on them. Go to West Marine and browse until you find that has good detail. Look for holes and U/W structure, then find an access point. A lot of the beaches don't want hard shell kayaks launching from them, picture it coming in sideways on a swell and some 5 year old in the shallows. I used to have good luck on hogfish off of the Cape FL light in about 12 foot of water.

I apreciate your help. I did try launching from dania beach south of John U. Loyd by the erojacks, but it was a long haul carring that kayak. Even though I made a cart for it, the wheels would sink in the sand. And now they have the parking area by the pier restaurant closed, which makes it even further.
I will tried looking in the charts, that is very good idea.
