I haven't been in about three years now... but my favorite place was El Moro, on the east side of town behind the cement plant. Used to be almost exclusively "divers-in-the-know" clientele, but I've heard through the grapevine the boat people may have found it. Still, it's far enough off the beaten path the "invasion of the pod people" shouldn't be as bad as elsewhere.

Actually, Pod People normally don't have that much impact on the restaurants, since all their meals are prepayed on the BUB. We always go to El Moro at least once or twice a visit; it's never crowded and the others there are usually divers and/or fisherpersons. DISCLAIMER: I go in May - low season.

Gordon,

Well, I guess there's some lack of agreement there. The hotel rates come down at the end of April, or at least they used to, IIRC. Is there an "official" low season?

A little googling shows some ambivalence. One site says July 15 through December 15 excluding Thanksgiving. One says only "the summer" to be low season. Another says it starts April 16 and goes until December 20. Another says May 1st - June 30th and Sept 1st - Dec 20th. Still another says 1 Jan - 31 Jan, 15 Apr - 14 July, 1 Sept - 15 Nov, and 1 Dec - 15 Dec . (These are hotel and car rental sites.)

Most of them do include May, though. I do know that the island is less crowded when I go than it is a lot of other times of year.

My point is that is still a very busy time. The past three May's, including this May have been someone of my very busiest months, regardless of what hotel or rental car sites show. I also know that the occupancy rates for hotels this May is above 80%, which is very high.

The only TRUE low season we have here is August, September and October.

Oh you are talking about Hurricane season :):)
We go each May and late Oct early Nov and it is always less crowded on our Nov trip

Yeah, Rasta's is nice and usually pretty quiet, good food too. you'd think there would be a pundgent smell of 'blue' smoke around the place, but not true. nice place to sip a couple of cervezas and groove on some Marley & Tosh.

we'll have to check out El Moro, sounds like a nice walk from La Ceiba.

Well, it would be a nice LONG walk. El Moro restaurant is north of the square and about 15 blocks in from Melgar. Do they have another location south of town?

If I just wanted a yard of beer, I'd go over to Chedraui and grab a couple of six packs to drink in the parking lot. Gotta be better then Carlos and Charlies.

wish I was there
