Seriously now folks, Carlos and Charlies is now no longer what it used to be, Senior Frogs is as much a pod people bar as Carlos and Chucks, is there a nice place a diver who just finished his second dive can go for a drink with some nice conversation? Or, is there a place those same divers who just had a great meal at 6:00 or 7:00 PM at night can spend an hour or two to enjoy a cocktail before hitting the sack before dreaming of his next days trip to Columbia Deep? Some of us have a couple of hours to kill after the afternoon shore dive before or even after dinner. And some like to get to bed by 10:00 or 11:00 only because they enjoy the next days dive but have a bit of time to converse about all that they were excited about for that day. Where do all these divers go, short of their all inclusive bar? It only takes so much time to fill in those log books and those scubaboard trip report notes!!!

Thanks,
Matt

hey! thanks for the tip on the "no name bar" we stay a La Ceiba and usually either just chill at Chopa Loca there at the hotel or maybe walk down to Ernesto's for a couple of cool one's.

If we are downtown we either just stay at the restaurant and have after dinner drinks or hit one of the sidewalk cafe's one the square and people watch. We really haven't found a favorite hangout either.

Here are a few suggestions:
Acuario's back patio
Pancho's Backyard (behind Cinco Soles)
Viva Mexico
The bar formerly known as Carlos n' Charlie's
Joe's Reggae Bar (if it is still up and running)
What used to be Morgan's (NE corner of the plaza)

NOT:
Carlos n' Charlie's, Senor Frog's, or any other place in Puta Langosta
Hard Rock Cafe
Fat Tuesday's (unless drunken limbo is your thing)

Goodbye and good riddance:
Planet Hollywood
Hooters

If you like people watching on the square, you can go into the lobby bar at the Meson San Miguel (just a few steps from Fat Tuesday)...go past the hotel desk and the bar is in the back. They have dollar beers. Then go sit on the wall and people watch to your heart's content.

(There was a Hooters in Cozumel?!?!)

I enjoyed heading over to the Havana Club for some really good mojitos, I hope it's still there when I go back to Coz in July.

Also, the "yards" of alcohol at Carlos & Charlie's are great, no matter what the people on this board tell you.

especially when diving, but the Aquario has a really nice deck area where you can watch the sunset and have a few drinks.

Havana Club is closed. It is now set up in the lower level of Prima, but that's only for cigar sales really.

Well, it's not the quality or quantity of the alcohol that I don't like at Carlos n' Charlies, it's the ambiance, or rather the lack of it. At the original location, it was a funky little dive with a rustic native feel, but now it's like any franchised mall bar in the US.

YMMV. To each his/her own.

I enjoyed Havana Club as well! Good place to hang..and the Mojitos were A++

Here are a few places I liked:

French Quarter - just across street from Liquid Blue - nice atmosphere and bartenders - usually will find a bunch of divers there about 6:30 PM.

$1 cervesa bar next to flea market on waterfront - this place is a hoot - can watch the cruise ship people and stay entertained on a budget

Chiratos - near corner of Calle 3 and 15th Ave Sur - this place has got to be pretty authentic as far as cantinas go. No exactaly clean, but cheap beer and great tapas served gratis.

Enjoy,

OC
