I'm a Fish!
I notice alot of people post things and at the end of the post include their PADI #. Is it that they are proud to be PADI certified, or is there another reason?

Just wondering!

Were you the 64th person PADI certified? Did you learn straight from Cousteau?

Did you have to do your checkout dives in a diving bell? With surface supplied air?

;)

I know as little as you do about why those PADI numbers are there...maybe one of them will let us in on it so we both don't feel dumb...

:D

I don't know and can't say for sure...
But I suspect it is as you guessed...
They are proud of the accomplishment...
Why not PM one and ask specifically?

Divers in all organizations wind up with ID numbers. In PADI, this number changes with each cert the diver gets. However, once they achieve Divemaster, they are assigned a permanent ID number because this is the first Professional Level in PADI.

No matter how far up the ladder they go after DM, the number remains the same. IOW, a Course Director (Instructor Trainer) has the same number he/she was assigned as a DM.

Basically, it's a matter of habit to put this membership number after their designation.

Also, these numbers also are coded according to country. For example, Canadian numbers start with 2, Japan with 6, etc.
