My wife and I both have FIX G10 housings and I would like to get at least one backup camera body. For the last couple weeks I have been watching e-bay and keeping an eye other camera 'classified ad' websites. I am astonished at the prices that used G10s have been selling for and completely bumfuzzled at the price new G10s are going for. Used ones are going for $300-$450 and new ones from $500-$650.

What's up with that? I assumed that after the G11 was released the price on G10s would drop considerably. We paid $440 for our new G10s from B&H last year.

If anyone has a G10 they'd like to sell, cheap, let me know. :D

Used in a very narrow range, there is no better small sensor camera. Not surprised that the price has not dropped. I would also be getting one if the price was lower.... as would many.

I suspect that the word is out that the G10 is in short supply and coming to an end and so the supply is being pressured. I think the camera manufacturers do this on purpose. N

Camera's like many things, can go up or down in price, depending on the demand. Raising the price on a camera that no one wants would not work, and Cannon with some models has lowered the price. The G10, however, does some things better than the G11...not many, but enough to keep it's price up. Expect the camera to have some popularity for some time.

I have also been surprised at the high prices on E-bay. Same situation - I was trying to buy a backup, so that if my primary tanked I would have a backup and not have to buy a new camera and new housing. At the prices they are now running for a USED G-10, I will just wait for the G12, and at least get a warranty.

Probably a number of folks (just like yourself) looking for backup cameras, thus keeping demand (and prices) high. That's a major plus with my video housing... it takes a wide range of Sony video cameras from Hi8 to HDV.

While I would love to have a backup, the insane cost for a used G10 is keeping me from doing so. I have mine insured for the amount I paid and in the event of a flood, I will sell my Ikelite housing, get the insurance money and jump into the world of EVILS "Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens".:D

I posted 'wanted' ads on a number of photography website forums this week and I was able to acquire a lightly used G10 + std accesories for $250. Which I think is a good deal for a backup camera body since we have about $3000 worth of housing/ports that need G10s to function.

Suspect that is where I am going also.

The last 10 or so that sold on ebay were between 375 and $420 which is about right for a camera that was sold for $600 new. What is truly bizarre is that you can buy new ones from some camera shops for $1K. Weird
