We're planning a dive trip for 2/2025 and our friends mentioned going to Ambergris Caye. We dove there in 2015 but have not been back since. At that time the reef was in pretty poor shape compared to other places. I know that was 10 years ago but I wonder if anyone here has dove there recently and if so what kind of shape is the reef in? (I was pulling for Little Cayman or Curacao) :p

well it was pretty bad in 2011 last time i went i dont see how it could be better now.

You should head down to placencia or Utila.

Cheers

I haven't been there since September 2016. Our group arrived a month after Hurricane Earl. The reef was destroyed...skeletons of broken coral everywhere.

We were there in May 2018. I can’t say it was the best Caribbean diving we’ve ever experienced, but the reefs were anything but dead. I thought there were decent fish populations and the coral appeared to be very healthy.

AC is off my list now. Three trips and the last in 2022 was absolutely awful. Not worth it IMO. Reef condition is lousy.

Hope you had a good trip, please give us an update on the conditions, if you went to Belize. My Wife and I were at Ramon's in Ambergris Caye two years ago . the diving (and operation ) were nice but we noticed that there were no large fish and very few to be seen. Last November 2024 we went back with a group, but this time it was further south to Turneffe island Resort. I must say the reef conditions were much better and many more fish plus a good variety.
