Legend LX with or without the ACD

I've got the Legend LX. It's their top of the line. Like Chris said, with our without the ACD. The ACD is just a feature they added in 2006 and doesn't have anything to do with performance. You can get it in DIN or Yoke for the same price.

The MSRP for the Legend LX is $595. You should be able to find a dealer that will come off that price 20% to 30%. Here's the specs from Aqualungs page. http://www.aqualung.com/products/legend_lx.html

Some might say the Legeng LX Supreme, but it's the exact same regulator as the Legend LX with cosmetic differences, a mouthpiece guard, and different Intermediate Pressure setting. (I've actually got the Supreme, because I liked the silver ring better. I changed the IP though. The mouthpiece guard is nice in cold water though). It's basically a way they came out with an additional product with very little change. Here's their page on it http://www.aqualung.com/products/legend_lx_supreme.html MSRP on the Supreme is $610

If you'll notice from the pics they are the same regulator except the mouth guard and silver ring. (there's also a plastic snowflake molded into the housing of the supreme).

Any shop that is selling it w/o the ACD is selling older stock from 2005 or older. FYI.

Edit: Other options from them to look at are the Legend (w/o LX) and the Titan regualtors. All good regs.

I bought one of the Legend Supremes with thefree Legend octapus back in the summer. We had it and the Apeks in the store and I took them apart and looked at them. I decided on the Legend. In retrospect I wish I had saved my 600 dollars. I don't especially like it. It took two months to get the free octapus, it appears fragile and cheap looking and it does not breaths all that great. Since this is the first new regulator I have bought in a long time I was expecting something great, I am severely dissappointed in the plastic fantastic. N

Dear Aqua Lung, and others, please make things out of METAL with METAL parts if your going to charge 600 plus dollars for something. It looks like it came out of a Cracker Jack box and the same for Apeks. N

IIRC, the dealer agreement that AL has with their dealers limits discounts to 10%.

Really? that's how they did the free octo thing? You had to wait and get it via rebate or something. That's just downright "chintze" of Aqualung. For some people it means they won't have an octo for 2 months, making the regulator almost useless.

If Aqualung is going to run a promotion like that, you should be able to get the octopus the same day. That just puts customers and dealers in a bind.

I thought that their free octo rebate thing was something the dealer was dealer was supposed to handle all on their own. oh well.

Ironically I bought my AL a month before they came out with the free octo promotion. that kinda sucked... oh well...

You are correct. Aqualungs dealer agreement includes "price fixing" as part of the agreement. They are not supposed to go below 10% off MSRP. However most decent shops will go below that to keep the sale because they know there are other dealers who go below 10% that they will loose the sale to.

There are also other ways that you can do this and still stay in agreement. It can be sold as a package deal, a trade in of old gear, etc. For example, sell it at list price at $595 and give customer trade in credit for $150. Total cost paid = $445

If I needed to buy a new Aqualung regulator I don't think I'd have a problem getting it for 20% to 30% off list.

Must have depended on where you went. I got my free octo on the same day as when I bought the reg. I went with the Titan LX.

Conshelf for lasting forever ...... a 20 year old Conself is not that much different from one made today and you can still get parts. Aqualung regulator models have come and gone but the Conshelf is like the Scubapro MK2 ...... it may never die because it works well and doesn't wear out if taken care of .

What defines "best"?

Re-sale value? Percentage of failures per 1000 sold? Most expensive? Nicest looking? Biggest seller? What?????

What's the "best" car?

I think the point here is that any reg will give you gas at depth and that you can depend on that throughout Aqua Lung's line.

Sea ya!
