Well, iam in the market for a dive computer and after carefully checking out the options i get the impression that nothing trully "revolutionary" is out. About the closest i found was a vibrating computer (instead of beeps). I mean, should i buy now or wait untill dema? I am not familiar on how the dive equipment industry works. Help ;)

What more do you want it do, automatic ascents? Short of revisions to the programming whats left? If you can read the display chances are it'll work. They are mostly very reliable already and next expectation would be cheaper prices. Save your money for when Oceanic releases their headsup display air integrated mask. Don't know when, have heard estimate of $1000+.

The VR3 is the newest, hottest dive computer that I have seen. Works for any gas or combination of gasses, including helium mixes. I suspect they run over $2000 but I am not sure since I have not priced one yet. Newest and hottest is relative to each diver, and what they are looking for.

At the other end, for most divers, a simple bottom timer, like Uwatek, at $150, is good enough. The only thing you really need is a digital depth read-out, so that you can control your ascent to 1 ft every two seconds, as in one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two etc. If you can read dive tables, you can figure out your own repetitive dive MODs and ADTs.

Well, there sure is some pretty screens out there, something with backlighting or the new organic displays.

Maybe even a rechargable battery that can be charged like those electric toothbrushes, and maybe even how about a stylus. Too much, maybe, but hey this is the future.

On a benefit that can be had now, how about some of that handy bluetooth, low power right?

Cheaper is always good. Features sell, well how about heart monitor, people die of heart attacks right? I would like a compass too, and maybe a sonar built in too. Shark shield as well (ok this is really silly).

Contribute as you wish, i would like to hear some ideas. Like user access to the computer, like coding and add ons. You want cooking tips on there then let it be.

Well,
Computers and technology in general have a tendency to become 'outdated' as soon as you buy it. My suggestion is to buy a good computer that will serve your needs and be proficient with tables (technology also has the habbit of breaking down when you least want that). Whatever you buy will be outdated when a newer version comes out. Go for what works for you and take care of it.

Have you looked at Oceanic's new Atom 1.0? It costs about $950 with the computer, transmitter, and dowload kit and can be used with upto 3 diferent tanks running three different mixes including upto 100% O2. www.oceanicworldwide.com
