Good morning,

I guess i will start with i am a rookie in the photography area underwater.

I am nearly a rookie on land.

I am going to jamaca for 8 days in december, (unlimited diving) and don't know what to do.

I own a cannon a630, and i have found some UW housings for it.

I also like the sealife ecoshot.

Prices are close enough to be a non issue.

What would you do and why?

Thank you for the information.

I guess I should also start by saying that I am also a rookie. I just got back from my first trip out with an underwater camera, and from what I learned I would go with the a630. The a series has gotten pretty good reviews. its 8 mp is better than the ecoshot. Also, I am not sure about the housing you are getting, but the ecoshot only goes to 23 meters. I would have had to sat out the ghost pipefish encounter if I couldnt go down deeper than 23 meters! Also, I dont know much about the ecoshot, but at first glance it looked like there were no manual controls. I found the automatic settings to be useless underwater. Shooting auto with auto white balance will make for some crappy pictures. Your canon has full manual controls. Also, I would look into getting a strobe. My strobe wasn't working in the beginning of the trip, and until it was fixed I was getting pretty crappy pictures.

Here is no strobe:

Here is with strobe

Both with were at about the same distance and same depth. Thats just my very inexperienced 2 cents.

Hey LekicINC,

Your turtle shot is absolutely AWESOME!!!!! I've seen tons and tons of images of turtles, strobe or not, doesn't matter, but never one that conveys the image of a "traveler through the oceans" so well. What a great idea to get so close and include the endless blue. I'm sure this shot would only been half as intriguing if you had used a strobe. Congratulations!!!
