Scubacastor:
I have a UWL-100 and the sony wide angle lens. I use a HC-42 in a ikelite housing

The quality of the UWL-100 is better than sony's in the air (less distortion)

BUT

lots of vignetting and bad distortions underwater for the UWL-100 (try both type I and type II). The Sony lens is just perfect for the job.

The UWL is a good lens, as you saw when using it in the air. How good it works underwater is affected by the housing and port. The closer the UWL (or any external lens) is to the camcorder lens the better.

I use this lens with a PT-030 housing from Olympus. Some people say this lens on this housing is close to what you would get with a fish-eye. Results are just perfect.

You are right about the distance but in my case, the lens is ,when screwed, probably less than 1/32 inch from the glass lens of the ikelite video housing and it's still bad so except sending the housing to ikelite for some custom work, there's no solution.

I can recommend the Epoque lens for the Ike housings. It's a very nice WA lens, not quite as wide or as good quality as the Inon, but I get no vignetting whatsoever and I still get a great field of view.

Cheers, Simon

How far is the camcorder lens from the video housing port ? That may be the cause of the vignetting.

My UWL mounts wet with a bayonet connection. A thin film of water is between the UWL and my flat port and can flow freely.

I wonder if the threaded port on the Ikelite is having some kind of affect due to the water ? Have you tried threading the lens underwater as well as out of water ? Is the water trapped in there or can if flow ?
