Hi all,
I am heading out for a 2 day to San Clemente this weekend, and it looks like it is going to be a cold weekend. I am new to dry suit diving <about ten dives in my dry duit> and was looking for some advice on what is appropriate to wear under my dry suit this weekend. I am hoping to get 4 or 5 dives in per day <maybe 5 Saturday, 3 Sunday?>, and want to stay warm. Earlier in the season I wore thin thermal underwear and a long sleeve t-shirt. What should I be wearing now?

Thanks all!

Justin

The thermals (not cotton, but something that will wick moisture away) are a good first layer. Do you have any Polartec on hand? The timing is kind of short notice to go shopping.

Yes, I am wearing a thin, polartec "jump suit" as the thermals layer. Yeah, I tend to be bad about pre-planning for things. If worse comes to worse I have plenty of sweatshirts, polar fleece, etc laying around the house from when I lived on the east coast, in Chicago, and other places where the diving is not so nice right now.

Don't know where you got your weather forecasts, but it looks like it's going to be a great WE...

As KM said, Polartec (at least 200 g) yes, cotton, no.

Which boat are you going to be on?

I have a 100 weight now, so I'll have to add another layer on top. I'll find one of my ski fleeces and see if it fits under the suit.

I'll be out on the Pacific Star. Its my first time on this boat, so I hope its a decent one.

Well, then I guess we'll see you tonite...

I use a fleece on top with track pants and heavy ski socks in the boots. That is for 34-50 F water. Make sure there aren't alot of threads (eg wool) or it can gum up your zipper. What's the water temperature in So California now?

Carpe diem. Go commando :monkeydan :censored:
