Cheap insurance, I've seen them for as little as $20. Visible at up to 2 miles with the naked eye further at night with the coast guard's equipment, water proof to over 300'. Has a duration of 10 hours.

I agree with medic. They work great. The stuff coming off the other person's AOL CD is the metallic screenprint paint on the label side. Just use a standard CDRW with nothing on it. Then you have two sides. 33cents or less

This is the single cheapest and most effective DIY piece of equipment you can own. I wonder if it reflects radar?
I just took two of them turn there label side inside clued them together with shinny side out of course. Oh by the way it has worked several times off the coast of NC, so in that it's also very cheap and readily available which means maybe more divers will have them rather than not having something.
So when they get caught in current and carried away maybe be of some use.
Oh for reference the mirror we tried was trident mirror.

I like that, wonder if I can use that as a tank light during night dives??

It would be quite large for that. We use one to mark the anchor line 15' off the bottom. Keeps wonders from getting lost.

Only putting my 2cents in. I was in the open ocean in the water with a thunderstorm for over nine hours without a life vest. My exbuddy grabbed both sets for himself.
I made it by stayin focus and relax. My swimming pace was from slow to floating. I made it in and was able to get help for my exbuddy who the Coast Guard found heading out further to sea about 5 hours later. He never tried to swim..Only floated.
The Sheriff's Office, the Coast Guard and Marine Patrol couldn't believe that I could stay out the long with out a floating device, "but I did". It made the News & News papers. I still do about 30 to 40 minutes of non stop laps...Best to all

Part of my safety gear includes these http://www.botac.com/skybscubsigp.html

the wistle is a piece of ....., but the rest works well. I also carry a safety sausage and soon a firefly strobe.

Miketsp, I like the idea of the weights you mention. My BC is rear inflation and I never thought how much hastle it would mean to stay upright if I was stranded, and tired.

Wow, that's quite a story! Were you left by a dive boat?

No, the boat belonged to my buddy and he forgot to turn the pumps on and the engine started to take water some how. I don't know what else he touched but the boat 28ft. started to take water. I never want to go through that again.. Rey
