What to do? BP/W

I'm getting pretty close to ordering a BP/W setup from somebody, either H or oxycheq. On the EE page, I could get a complete Eclipse setup and a Storage Pack for the backplate for $595. To get a 30# Sig Series with all the needed items and a Storage Pack would be about the same. Or I could get a 36# Pioneer with a Storage Pack for $515. I don't really mind the difference in price between the Pioneer and the Sig/Eclipse if the upgrades are worth it.

What do you guys that have used these think? Also, the length of the Halcyon backplate is 16" at the edges. This comes to the top of my belt. Is this far enough down?

I have the 36# pioneer it is nice that it does not need an STA, however I have since added a heavy one for 2 reasons. I will be doubling up some of my tanks soon so I wanted to be able to switch between doubles and singles relatively easily, and I wanted more weight on my BP for singles so I bought a heavy STA. The eclipse includes and requires a STA, it comes with the standard one, and I believe that the bladder is replaceable which is a nice feature. I am not that familiar with the Oxycheq wings but I will be looking at them when I get my doubles setup since I have seen some good reviews.

As for the length of the BP, I am 6'1" and have no issues with length, it rides a little bit higher than the top of my belt as well.

I'm 6'2, so it should fit about the same. Where does the waist strap hit you? A problem I have with my current BC is the cummerbund hits me too high when the shoulder straps are adjusted properly.

I have my BP at home. I will have to try it and then get back to you. I have a gut so the strap fits nicely under it ;-) .

How are you determining where the bp sits on your back? You should be able to touch the top of the plate by reaching over your shoulder with extended fingers. If that places the waist belt too high, then you may need an extended plate. Oxycheq and FredT both offer extra length plates.

The Harness waist band is gonna sit higher that what you would see with a standard BC.

I measured it from where the GUE page says the top should be, down 16 inches, the length of H backplates, to see where it would hit.

I don't think you would have a problem with the standard length BP but if you are concerned get the longer Oxycheq or FredT. Shane is 6'3" and uses the longer one (with a weighted STA.) He has the one originally made by Scott Koplin but now made by Oxycheq.

As for the wing, I personally like the Pioneers better because they fold up so flat along the tank not having the internal bladder. I do not use an STA but I do have a 6# channel weight held in by the cambands.

How much flatter? I'm sure anything will be flatter than my current BC, but I want something real small so I can save some room in my suitcase (halleluja!).
