Hello there everyone... Just a question about what to do after the dive day is over with. I am just curious about how you store and transport all your gear home from the dive site if you are doing a local dive. Do you pack it all in a case wet and then hang it at home??? Do you through a tarp in your car and keep everything as laid out as possible??? Just curious. Thanks in advance for any and all help...

If there's time to pack casually I hang it all out to dry (mostly) at the dive site, so it's only damp when I take it home, then hang it up at home for the rest of drying.

If I'm in a hurry or it's raining, I just throw it all in the bag wet and then hang it up at home.

Either way, if you're diving in a wetsuit it may be a good idea to throw the wetsuit in a closeable tub or dry box so you don't have to smell the P all the way home. :)

I have Jeeves do it. Here's his method:

Everything gets bagged. Waterproof bagged.

Small bits get placed in one bag. Big stuff another.

When Jeeves can't find our water proof duffels, he uses disposable garbage bags. 80 Gallon size works, there are bigger ones available. They don't have to be real thick or strong, as he is careful when moving them in and out of the Benz.

When he gets them unloaded from the Benz, it all gets thrown into the rinse tank which we have converted from the polo pony's jacuzzi now that they have been swapped for the llamas.

When he is driving the Hummer Pick Up, he just tosses it in the back and heads for the car wash.

"Leaving it as laid out as possible" in your car- it will just make your car stinky and wet.

If you live in a condo, try finding a dive site exit with a garden hose nearby. Otherwise, the shower/bath tub can be your best friend.

Don't make more out of it than it has to be. Bag it and drag it.

We put it in a rubbermaid tub in the back of the SUV and rinse and hang it once we get home. Dry suits go back in their bags for transport, but we put those in a tub too to keep them from dripping all over the car. Those big tubs with wheels on one end and a handle on the other are the berries!

A storage box on wheels makes a great way to carry your gear in your car while keeping the car dry. They are also handy when you have to walk a little way to where you set up your gear when you dive or if you have to walk from where you park to where you rinse your gear at home. I have a large black toolbox that I transport my gear in and I love it! You just have to make sure whatever box you choose will fit in your vehicle. You can find the wheeled toolboxes at Home Depot or Lowes and the Rubbermaid wheeled totes at Meier, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

Like theskull I try to let my gear sit a little while before packing it up so it has a chance to dry off. Hangers and a clothesline make nice additions to your dive kit for shore dives where you have a place to rig one up. I often take along a sun shelter and just hang my suit from that.

All goes in a separate large mesh duffle bag, except weights, mask and fins. In the car goes on a tarp, if the truck, on the bed. Rinse and dry at home!

I have a plastic tarp in the van. If it's just my gear it goes in my roller bag and the wetsuit/drysuit is in its own bag. Everything is rinsed once at home..and that goes for pool dive too.

Equipment used by students goes into the Rubbermaid storage cases and rinsed once i'm back.

Then it's time for a beer......

Thanks for all the info from everyone... I have one of those big tubs on wheels that I use for my skydiving equipment and that is what I had thought about using for scuba gear as well. I guess I will get another one and a seperate bag for the wetsuits. Thanks again. I hope everyone has a great weekend...
