What does the sizing 3/4" and 1/2" measure? Is it the length of the boltsnap ring or the size of the gate or ??

I found that buying the Nix 'assorted set' on the 'for divers' page gave me everything I needed, with a few spares. After two years (and more gear to attach snaps to) I bought another assortment. Couldn't be happier with them.
