We will be diving florida in december. What mil wetsuit will we need? we will be diving venice, and pensicola thanks, Jeff

I have a similar question. We will be diving Key Largo the week before Christmas and wondering what the temp and recommended wet suit would be. Thanks for letting me pile on.

being that you guys are probably use to the colder water id say 3-5mm

id say bring a 5mm if you happen to get to warm just pump water in the neck to cool you down

for me living down here and i tend to get cold faster ill eith use a 5 or a 7mm:dork2:

i dive a 3mm Pinnicle merino in 84 deg water ( for a reference )

enjoy your trip down and dive safe
make sure you bring lobster gear and get a LIC. they are around :eyebrow:

We being locals we are kinda over-sensitive to the cold...and I have no idea y'all's tolerance for cold...

December is not the dead of winter, but getting there. February is the brutal month...

Venice can be freakin cold. The Gulf gets as low as 58 in the winter; December can be below 70. Keep in mind in Venice you will be making LONG dives as the fossil beds are 15 or so feet and you will want to cover ground....For me... easily a 7 mil and a hooded vest in Venice in December.

The Keys and east coast will probably be mid 70s in December. By February look for temps around 70. In December I go with either a 3 mil and hooded vest or 5 mil and hooded vest depending on the lengths of my dives and how tough I am feeling. :D

Bottom line is I have rarely been too warm on a dive yet have been freezing many, many times. As you can tell I am a huge fan of the hooded vest...greatest invention ever.

I am form the Northeast, I went diving in Fort Lauderdale area back in Jan. A 3 mil suite was more then enough without a hood. But if you get cold quickly, you may want a 5 mil.

I can tell you that I'll be diving dry. Call me a wimp, but I'll be a wimp who's nice and toasty.

I wear 3 to 5 mil .... once in a while I will wear my 7 mil but it is a bit to much.

Im from Memphis new to the sport, and I was diving out of Jupiter last Feb with no wetsuit and got cold I'll be taking my 3mm shorty as well as my 5mm henderson full. It would have been alot more comfy with wetsuit I CAN PROMISE you

The Gulf can get down to the low 50s/upper 40s in the winter, although during a typical winter it's about 10 degrees warmer than that. For diving the Gulf in the winter, a 7 mm suit with a hood is the minimum anyone should consider. A dry suit is even better. The east coast and the Keys stay warmer and almost everyone can get along with a 3 mm suit. Typical winter temps are low to mid 70s.
