What kind of diver are you?

"Old-New" diver here:
PADI/NAUI OW in 1979 but no diving again until 2003 when I picked it up again (and got a fresh OW cert with PADI).
Since then only about 4-8 dives a year while on vacations.
Picking things up even more now, diving locally, AOW next weekend, Rescue next month, more local diving, 9-day trip to Fiji coming up... loving every minute of it...

Primarily I would fall into #10 but I have done recovery dives for bodies, I do work as a guide for new divers and I do commercial work when needed (mostly in ice). None are my job, just additional income and LDS credits. I just like being in the water.

I guess I'm a recreational diver, I dive local and on vacation, but the funding is not there right now. I've only dove once in the past 2 years, and I hate it!!! I wish I could dive a whole lot more.

I guess I fall into avid rec diver but I also work with students as a DM.

I dive year round, which in NY means drysuit and ice diver part of the year.

My gear is mainly rec but I am slowly transitioning towards a more tec setup and just started diving a BP/W.

I am more a Rabid Underwater Tourist with a purpose.... get in.... get wet.... hopefully get a few pics.... most importantly get back in good enough condition to enjoy cleaning my gear and looking at my pictures.

I am definitely recreational... I get asked regularly "Why don't you get into Instructing Diving?" People seem to think that since I am passionate about diving and my job as a First Aid Instructor I should obviously get into teaching diving too. I can't think why I should turn my favourite relaxation into WORK!

I used to be a solid 4, now I'm an 8. I was on Match.com and got an email - you rec or tec? I e'd back rec. He e'd back tec but I'll do rec. So after about three months of e's, I e'd going to Monterey - wanna go. He said YES!

We are from Nevada, so went down I-80. B4 we turned left on 680, we felt the chemistry. Wahoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :arrow:

What category to you fit in?

1. Vacation Diver: I only dive when on vacation or special diving trips, purely recreational diving. (about 10 or so dives a year)
2. Recreational Diver: I dive a few times a year locally but I also dive on vacation. (about 20 or so dives a year)
3. Active Recreational Diver: I dive when ever I can, recreationally, cold or warm water, local and on vacation. (about 30 or so dives a year)
4. Avid Recreational Diver: I dive on a regular (non-professional) basis , recreationally, cold or warm water, local and on vacation. (more than 50 dives a year)
5. Active Recreational Diver with a purpose: I dive to because I love the photography/videography aspect, I almost never dive without my camera.
6. Rec-tech Diver: I dive frequently but not generally in caves or wrecks but my gear is technically inspired.
7. Minimalist/Vintage Diver: I dive frequently but not generally in caves or wrecks but my gear is minimalist or vintage gear inspired.
8. Avid Rec-tech Diver: I dive frequently and gear is technical/DIR/GUE compliant (mostly). I have or am taking the first set of technical/cave/wreck classes.

11. Public Safety Diver: I dive as a volunteer or as a profession in Public Service. (Fire/Police/Paramedic, ect.)
12. Recreational Dive Master/Guide: I dive mostly for resorts/dive boats, may or may not be my only job.
13. Recreational Dive Instructor: I dive mostly to train Recreational Divers, may or may not be my only job.
14. Professional Recreational Dive Instructor: I dive to train Recreational Divers. It is my only job.
15. Technical Dive Instructor: I dive mostly to train Technical Divers, may or may not be my only job and I also train some recreational divers.
16. Professional Technical Dive Instructor: I dive to train Technical Divers. It is my only job.
17. Professional Dive Instructor: I dive to train Technical Divers. It is my only job.
18. Professional Diver: I dive as part of my job, but not as an instructor or guide. I am paid to shoot photos/videos, demonstrate gear, hunt for treasure/historical artifacts or for science/research.
19. Commercial Professional Diver: Diving is my job. I dive for/in commercial/industrial situations.
20. Military Diver: If I tell you what I do, I may have to kill you.
