No question is a stupid question, right?
I don't recall learning about this in class , but I read about it a lot on the boards.

It's normally the edging around doors, windows and other things to cover the gap between two surfaces. :D Not a dumb answer, right?

Now on the serious side.

Just like a plane, you need to fly straight and level. Not leaning to one side or the other head up or down. Just nice and level. That is trim.

It could also be a minor clean up hair cut, nail cutting or the way your sails react to the wind. :D

It's the wood that goes around the door.

It's basicly your orientation in the water. Assuming you're neutrally buoyant and not moving, are you in a streamlined horizontal position? If so, your trim is good.

Ah!!!! Like the trim on a boat. Got it...
Thanks guys!
YUP.

But YOU want to have good trim UNDER the boat. :D

Being FIT & TRIM is good as well.

See what you started. :D

Yes, it's almost quitting time at work and imaginations are running wild!!!!! I'm glad I know now though :)
You rat. I'm just heading out the door to GO to work. But my imagination is running all the time anyway. :D

Trim is more than your orientation in the water. It has do to with orientation under propulsion. Similar to an airplane's trim, you can trim yourself to ascend, descend or maintain depth as you move through the water. What most folks would call *good trim* is really neutral trim where your depth is unaffected by movement through the water.

That said, static balance should be the goal and trim the dynamic result. With balance you can attain any degree of trim. Without balance trim is tenuous at best.
