As pointed out above it was the early 90s that many divers and drysuit divers in particular started to use BCs. I still have a hollow plastic backplate loaded with lead shot so I needed less weight on my belt. As a drysuit diver I use it for added buoyancy as I need to add a bit of air at depth or get the famous **** squeeze. I too have a problem with divers constantly filling and dumping their BC, they should learn to dive as if they don’t have one on and they will be much better divers.
