Says who? PADI still teaches 60 ft per min.

LOL! I wasn't aware of that, but I believe you. Consider the source. Just when I think I've lost all respect for them, I lose a little more.

Page 239 of the PADI OW Book.

Wow, ok then. Color me uninformed, I too thought that had changed. Haven't read anything PADI in quite awhile.

Never mind....

That's the bubble mask, keeping the hand tight to your forehead exhale enough air to create an airspace around your eyes so you can view your guage/buddy/whatever. Search the bubble mask, its an interesting, maybe fanciful concept for us youngins but lots of old-timers swear they learned it in OW...

Are you serious? Oh we have *got* to try this....

OK - still not getting it though (sorry, I'm slow about these things sometimes). If I am wearing my mask, why can't I see my gauge or buddy without blowing the bubble? I'm blowing air into my mask, like clearing it, but without actually letting the air escape?

No, your hand would be above your mask, so you are creating a air bubble in front of your mask. Possibly giving you a much better field of view.

Yeah, they invested too much money in the RDP, which was tested with 60ft/min and none of the hot-shots at the mother ship seem to be willing to annihilate that investment... It would appear to me that they're giving sales of the RDP priority over following best practices.
