Hey I'm in La Jolla on business and in a beachfront hotel (Sea Lodge). It's dusk and I see 6 divers wading in outside my hotel room. Just curious whats out there under the surf and wishing I brought my gear:06:

MOST of these shots were taken at the Shores. I have nearly 200 dives there. I am still not bored on the dive!

Next time bring gear and I will show you the sites. La Jolla is all about the night dive for me.

Dammit why didn't I think about bringing my gear? Tonight would have been perfect. The rest of my schedule here is booked up so I don't really see a possibility of renting gear over the next two days as I'll be tied up with work functions.
I never realized there were sand dollar beds!!:D

Right now you would see tens of thousands of squid eggs. We saw them Saturday on the Wrinkles dive. Also crabs, lobster, guitar fish, nudies and a juvenile grey whale.

The sand dollar beds are close to shore in front of the Sea Lodge and Marine Room. They begin in about 15 feet and go down to 45 feet, close to the edge of the canyon where you will find even more to see. It's definately not a sandy desert there.

Judging from the time of your post & location, I think I was probably one of those 6 divers.. lol... Besides the canyon and massive sand dollar beds, theres old Native American mortar bowls scattered around, a wrecked boat (Cabezon Cruiser), Fringehead City, Vallecitos Point, Gorgonian Gardens, some pretty sheer walls south of the boat launch, and all sorts of odds & ends to be found (a ladder, a barrel, a SDPD traffic sign). You'll most likely see nudibranchs, horn sharks, rays, tons of fish, octopus, sheepcrabs, pipefish.. and if you're lucky you might encounter a giant sea bass, jellies, or a couple of sea lions.. :)
