What is the record for the deepest a scuba diver has gone

what is the record for depth. What is the farthest someone has been. For example has anyone been to 400 feet?

These days for the properly TRAINED and EXPERIENCED 400 fsw is not a big deal.. There are several people on this forum who have multiple dives beyond this depth, myself included...

I know one person who has done 197m on oc and it was NOT a bounce dive, his deco was around 18 hours if I remember correctly.

Speaking of deepest dives, I don't want to brag, but as many of you might know the PADI OW depth limit is 60 feet. Recently, I broke what must be a record for PADI OW divers: I dove to a depth of approximately 61 feet. I can upload my profile if anyone is interested.

A buddy of mine Ben R did 205 m off the blue hole in Dahab a couple of years back at the time is was a record for "taking all the gas with you" dive rather than having them staged along the way as the deeper records require.

When he told me, I thought he was full of cr*p, so I looked it up on the web and it was true.

The french comercial diving company Comex have done "dives" to 701m (that's what? a bit over 2000 ft for those who've not yet caught up to metrics) - I believe that parts of it were on Hydrox on OC...I am sure that google can reveal more specifics on this.

These were not underwater, it was "depth equivalent" in a chamber.

The deepest untethered open circute dive was done just off of Phuket Thailand in late 2003 by Mark Ellyatt. That was to 313 meters(1032 feet) The word is there is another team getting ready to try for 1100 feet somewhere over here soon. Jon Bennett was the previous record holder at 1000 feet. He died this last Febuary on a 45 meter salvage dive in Korea.

You're probably right -- I remembered something like that but wasn't sure, hence I wrote "dive"

Now, I am actually not sure I'd really like to be under 701m of water......a helluva lot of gas to carry, you'd need to dive with an oiltanker strapped to your back.....
