Daryl Morse:
As of December 18, 2003, the OC depth record was 313 meters by Mark Ellyatt.

I'll second this claim. BTW, South African Numo Gomes claims to hold the current cave depth record of about 900' and recently (last month or two) failed in an attempt to break the open water/open circuit record. Take a look at Triple-L web site as they are a sponser, and more info on Poseidon web site. Numo survived the attemp, not sure what the problem was.

Member of the Navy EDU was on the bottom at 1025 FSW on a rebreather, untethered, a number of years ago.
Thats SCUBA.

Dr. Earle was in a Zoot Suit on her 1250' dive.

The french comercial diving company Comex have done "dives" to 701m (that's what? a bit over 2000 ft for those who've not yet caught up to metrics) - I believe that parts of it were on Hydrox on OC...I am sure that google can reveal more specifics on this.

Is there one place in particular that I could read about the achievements of major players in diving throughout the years. Iwould be interested to learn some names and exploits of the pioneers and those of today.

Speaking of deepest dives, I don't want to brag, but as many of you might know the PADI OW depth limit is 60 feet. Recently, I broke what must be a record for PADI OW divers: I dove to a depth of approximately 61 feet.

I can upload my profile if anyone is interested.

During my OW cert my instructor took me down to 70 feet :11ztongue

I'm sure we'll be getting our "Exceeding Depth Limit for Newly Certified Diver" tickets in the mail any day now, courtesy of the SCUBA police :eyebrow:

Speaking of exceeding depth limits....a few years back, at the shop I USED to work for, one of the other guides had a customer "get away from him" and momentarily drop to about 50m/165'. Not a good thing to let happen, of course, but the (probably narced) diver was brought up into shallow water, where she & the guide spent a long time....just like a deco dive, even though in the short time she was at depth, it's quite possible she never went into deco (it was at a "swim through" where the deep time is normally just a few minutes.) Anyhow, she was fine, no DCI symptoms or anything at all. But the boss saw "50m" in her log book, and for the next couple years, NO CUSTOMER could ever go past 24m/80'. As the most popular dive site in Guam (the Blue Hole)...where the incident occurred, by the way....has an opening at around 35m/120', none of the customers from that shop could go through it....made for a lot of disgruntled divers, especially the ones with hundreds of dives who'd been through there before. The worst part is that none of these people were ever told in advance that "the new shop rule is 24m max for EVERYONE," giving them no chance to "bail out" in advance. I DID see quite a few customers changing dive shops on the next day, though!

John Bennet would also fall under the "dead" category.
John's death had nothing to do with deep diving.. He died while doing a salavage job at relatively shallow depths.
