You need to give a few more specifics - your question is too general, and is like asking "what should of car should I get". Budget and type of diving for starters.

What kind of BCD should I get I want to buy my own gear what type should I get?

Also do you want to buy new or are you willing to consider 2nd hand?

Hmmm, cheap life support equipment? Now I do agree there are some units more cost effective than others and one does not need to drop a huge wad of cash to get something good. However, don't be cheap.

perhaps a price range may help.

hang on everyone!!!! I'll go & queue up the broken record.

There are some great savings opportunities with used BDs. Ebay is probably best source (large selection) but check your LDS. I would expect to pay around a quarter on the dollar compared to new prices. Many bargains under $100.00.
