Thinking about insuring some of my gear, camera, ect. I'm kind of new to diving so I was hoping for some experience to chime in on the better companies to use. :D I did a search and saw some good and bad on a few companies. But would like a little more options.

I go through the company the DAN website links to, offhand I think it is Senn, Dunn, etc...

DEPP

They had far better terms than DAN at the time I subscribed for flooding/accidental loss. Not sure if it's still true.

Since I sometimes do photo work for pay, many companies would not cover my gear. I ended up with a policy through the North American Nature Photographers Association. Unfortunately the minimum policy is a bit higher than many options. That said it covers just about any loss above or below water.

If you haven't seen it in your searches, give this site a read:

Norbert Wu's Product Recommendations: Insuring Your Camera Gear

I used a State Farm personal effects policy that only has my dive gear and camera equipment on it.

Same here. Inexpensive and you can get replacement insurance for your gear. That means you go buy a similar piece of equipment and they pay for the replacement cost, not the value of your old equipment.

The pricing from State Farm is much lower than the others and the service is fantastic. I have had two claims, due to housing floods, and the response was quick and very fair. I only have my camera gear insured, but I am considering adding my SCUBA gear, as well.

First off, I'm not an insurance agent, nor a personal lines specialist, but I do have experience in the insurance business, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

As far as your gear goes, it should be covered under your homeowners or your renters policy for personal possessions. You can add an inexpensive rider, which gives you replacement cost coverage (in lieu of existing value coverage, which takes in to account depreciation - and I don't know any divers with all brand new equipment). This will cover you for all normal incidents, including theft and water damage from the sudden release of water (NOT floods).

You have to add an additional rider for flood insurance, or, as some have mentioned above, you can schedule your gear through your homeowners/renters policy specifically for flood and/or loss. Often times, these policies are called inland-marine policies.

I hope this helps. :)

If you are a homeowner Texfrazer is right on, check with your agent about an inland-marine endorsement rider to your policy.

Thanks for the options. Great info about the homeowners insurance. I appreciate it! I will check with my insurance first, then check with State Farm. :D
