Does anyone dive here with artificial hips? Im new to the sport and have been using split fins. Any brand names to look for?

Hey jaywells...

I don't have artificial hips, however, I do use multiple brands of splits -- both Apollo Bios, and Atomic Aquatics.... The Apollo Pros are the original Nature's Wing, and are great fins. Negatively buoyant, and 'disappear' on your feet. The Atomics (Smoke on the Water -- the newer hi-energy fin) have a bit more "feel," a bit more lower end torque, and are positively buoyant. I like them both for different purposes...

Did you have specific requirements?

need to keep as much stress from straight leg kicking as it puts stress on my hip joints. i guess not real stiff. Thanks

The original Apollo Bio Pros would probably be best for you... very little resistance when kicking, yet they seem to have amazing propulsion, regardless, once you get the kick down (which is a tight flutter, as opposed to a typical wide scissor kick with paddles, which, I imagine, would tend to stress your hips more).

Another option is to go with the slightly stiffer Atomic (or Apollo XT), and use the frog kick, which is low stress, however, not as useful in any current...

Force Fins.

They offer excellent propulsion, for the least physical demand, of any fins on the market.

I find that I can maintain a decent speed (I dive slow) with just ankle movement to cause a slight flutter and glide...

My suggestion would be to go to the Vintage Scuba - Vintage Scuba Gear at Vintage Double Hose get on the forum and then send a PM robohips......wonder how he got that handle. :)

Nice guy and since he has a lot of experience diving with hip replacements he would be better able to help you out.....you can tell him I sent you.

I use Tusa Tri-Ex fins. They are not as flexible as most spilts and provide a lot more thrust. I had both hips replaced about 6 years ago.
