What Walter said...."kit" or "kit up" is frequently used in US SO units, but is in fact, borrowed from the Brits....

Well ... let's be sure to return it when we are done with it. I never "kit up," I "dress in.":D
 
PS, not only can it be "raining cats and dogs" it can also be "raining stair rods" if you are in the right part of the country :)
 
They owe us Thallass....I say we just keep it....besides I am in the middle of fourteen days of dive checkouts for the university and I am befuddled by fatigue so much that my "kit" be dragging....
