I dive mainly in the cool and most often murky waters of the Northwest. What do you use of a focus/model light?

I use an Ikelite mini-C light on my housing when I'm shooting Macro (in Puget Sound), and I use a pair of Mini Q-40's when I'm shooting wide angle.

You can sort of see my mini-c light in this picture and you can see the mini-Q40's in this picture .

Both are held in place using ULCS fittings.

I use a Niterider on a bendy arm. With a 35 wt bulb and diffuser lens it helps autofocus and gives a little fill. Also doubles as a pretty good dive light.

I use a light cannon mounted using ULCS fittings... predominantly for night diving without a photo buddy.. tested it in day time but not night. Will test it in a couple of weeks in Bohol

Well after looking around it came down to L&M, Hartenberger and this new light by Fisheye. I went with the Fisheye, due to features and size. It should also make a good primary light while on night dives. One thing they mention in the article is a "Red Filter for night dives". Why would you want a red filter?

I've heard that the red filtered light is supposed to be less likely to scare off critters, and it still works just as well for focusing.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the Fix Light.

My next trip is in February, and unless something better comes out, that is next on my purchase list.

I have seen people who are trying to take pictures of mating mandarinfish at night claimed that the redlight will not spook the fish nearly as much as regular light. However you can also get get red foamgel and smear it in front of the modeling light for the same purpose.

Generally I just use my Ikelite DS125 built in modeling light for focusing and as my night dive light source.
