Very good point !! The CO2 impact from a flight half around the world is generally a bigger problem then a lot of the smaller " local problems " - not that you should not beware of them and avoid as much as possible.
If I am flying ,i take since around 10 years advantage of a CO2 compensation programm like ATMOSFAIR a non profit organisation, who introduces CO2 reducing technical diveces as high effective woodburner , solar kitchen , waterturbines , methangas powerplants on harvestingwaste etc. I am always astonished how few people - even in the tourism industry -know about this valuable tool to reduced your negative impact on the heating of our planet ( which for example will in the nearer or further future drown one of the favorite dive spot - the maldives )
