There is nothing worse than people who stir up the bottom. I will admit that my bouyancy control isn't perfect but the bouncy bottom technique drives me crazy.

My first 15 dives were with the same two buddies that I knew very well. They were more experienced than me and were very forgiving of my newbie antics. Indeed, I was allways the first one low on air, the one with bouyancy issues, the one who wouldn't penatrate the Rhone and so on. But, they never complained and took time out of their dive to help me along.

When I went on my next trip (without them) I tried to mimic their good manners with all of my new buddies none of which I knew. Most were okay but one guy immediately broke the 80 foot profile that we had agreed upon on the boat. There I was at 85 feet watching him WAY down the wall and not knowing what to do. Further, I was lost and was depending on him to get us back to the boat. When he finally came up we finished the dive and worked our way back to the boat. When I questioned him at the surface he claimed that he didn't realixe how deep he was (despite the fact that he had a dive computeer that revealed his actual depth!).

I still think buddy expectation varies depending on type of dive.

PADI cattle heard, follow the leader id use the term "buddy" in loosest possible sense and provided they told me they might do it beforehand i wouldnt mind if they vanished out of sight.

Round here where conditions dictate no group diving and always as an indepdendent pair that isnt acceptable - you expect and need far more.
