If you have any plans to do any more advanced diving that requires decompression, I would suggest getting a computer that allows for switching gasses under water. I also recommend getting a computer from a manufacturer that thinks you are smarter than the average monkey and can change a battery by yourself.

I wouldn't worry about getting a multigas computer. If in the future you decide to do planned decompression dives, you will be planning these dives on the surface using tables or software.

There is at least a million answers to this question. Most of them do Nitrox etc. Look for the follwing feature. You did Dive 1 of the day. The next dive is at 100ft, and you want to know what your bottom time at that depth would be if you have a 30min SI.

I completely agree with this statement. When I started diving a while ago, I considered purchasing a nitrox capable computer because I did not know if I would ever use it! I am sure glad I got that nitrox feature. But back to the main issue. I like the Uwatec computers because they are pretty conservative. You may also want to take a look at Uwatec's Smart PRO computer that possesses a similar setup as the PRO Ultra, but also takes into account microbubble formation in the body. A helpful website to glance at is:
www.uwatec.com

I hope this information helps!!!!!

Just to clarify, Quarrior is talking about computers that allow you to use multiple gases during the course of a single dive. For example, a dive that used EAN32 as backgas and EAN50 for a deco gas. Flamebug is just looking for a nitrox computer, for which there are many good choices.

That is partially true. My real point is to get a computer that will grow with you. My other point is, don't get a computer that has to be serviced by a certified technician to change the bloody battery.

Do you own your own gear now? Have you given any thought to the features you want (i.e. PC download, user changeable battery, etc)? Is your LDS a dealer for each of these computers?

I have no experience with Aeris. While I don't have the Vyper or Pro Ultra, I do have a Suunto Cobra and Uwatec SmartTec, both of which I like, but are air-integrated. I really like the Cobra's navigation (I believe it's the same on the Vyper), but the SmartTec is great because it gets rid of that HP hose, and easy to keep up with since it's on my wrist. I would recommend playing with the computers you mentioned, either in the water, or out of the water. Suunto's website has demos for most of their computers.

Later....

Exactly. But I think that Quarrior is trying to say to get a computer that adapts to your changing scuba "needs". Like not buying an air only computer when you do not even know about nitrox. I bought a nitek 3 and it adapted from open water to deep air w deco. Excellent unit if I might add.
