Hey all, I'm a newbie to diving and so far have only been at local quarry's. I'll be down in West Palm Beach soon and plan on doing some boat dives when I'm there. My question is I've been using this bag to carry around my gear but is it to big for a boat? When I take my gear out the bag can fold up pretty small since it's made of a canvas material and I don't plan on taking all kinds of extra junk on the boat. Would I be the only newbie with a duffel bag? should I get a mesh bag? Thanks.

I use a mesh duffle 30x14" I put my fins, mask, wet suit etc, and wear my BCD like a back pack. My wife has an even larger mesh backpack that fits everything, including her BCD in.

I recommend a mesh bag, because most boats I have been on, eventually everything gets soaked, at least 30 % of the time. It will also allow your wetsuit and BCD to drain, so you aren't carrying all that water with you.

You can get these bags at LDS for $30-40, online cheaper. I think I even saw some at Academy cheaper, but they may not be durable enough for your fins and to be dragged.

Here you go....(think of your fellow man--diver).....I've used one similar to this since '85, you'll never regret it, in fact, I just dump it filled with equipment in the rinse tank @ the end of a day of diving, hang it up & am ready for tomorrow's diving......

If you check around @ other sites, sometimes you can catch them for $20..

EDIT...was just on their site & found one for $20.....get it....

I got one of these that I'm happy with, but it's a little large for my full set of gear. If I were to replace it I'd probably get the size smaller.

If you are a real minimalist, they have two sizes smaller yet.

Dont laugh.....I use a milk crate. Once I get to the dock I put my stuff in the crate (fin straps over the wrist to carry those)--and Im set to go. Now admitedly EVERYTHING will get wet (but it does anyway). It fits under the bench, slides easy, and it drains with no problem.

When Im done with the trip--the BC and fins get dunked in the barrel and then my reg set and other item (which are in the milk crate) just get dunked too.

Take a look at the Armor extra large mesh bag. It even has a dry pouch built in which I have found very handy.

I'm very happy with this bag: Cressi Gorilla.

It's waterproof which works well for keeping the contents dry before diving and also for keeping the car trunk dry afterwards.

Now THAT's a great idea...I think I'll give one a try..thanks for sharing...

And here I thought this was a discussion about SOs. :D

I bring my Zeagle bag with me. Very easy to carry and the mesh sides allow drainage. After the dive, I drop the ENTIRE bag into the dunk tank. I let it soak for a minute and then I hoist it out. Obviously, I keep all water sensitive items out of that bag. :D
