Bali Dive Centre’s Go Head to Head for Underwater Conservation

Six of Bali’s PADI Dive Centres will go head to head on 9th September 2010 in Project AWARE Foundation’s first ever 5 A-Side Soccer Tournament. The dive centres involved aim to raise over $2,000 for the charity that works with divers to conserve underwater environments through education, advocacy and action.

Bali Crystal Divers, Puri Wirata Dive Resort, Blue Season Bali, Divemasters, Bali Hai Diving Adventures and Atlantis International will swap their diving fins for football boots during the 5 A-Side soccer game. Each dive centre team will be scored on a point system with the winning teams progressing through to the Semi’s and then the Final. Only one team will be named “Bali Soccer Champion 2010.”

PADI Course Director and owner of Bali Crystal Divers, Minni Vangsgaard said, “This is a fun way for all our staff to get involved in protecting our underwater office.”

“Supporting the aquatic world is vital,” said Jonathan Cross from Blue Season Bali. Vimal Lekhraj, Manager of Divemasters Bali agrees, “As part of the dive industry it’s our duty to give back to the environment.”

The centres have also donated over $2,000 worth of prizes to be auctioned off at Stiff Chilli, Semawang Beach in a Charity Auction Event from 8pm – Everyone’s invited! Prizes include:
· Manta Dive Trip for two people with Bali Crystal Divers

· Three nights’ accommodation at the boutique Hotel Santai

· PADI Advanced Open Water Course plus one night deluxe accommodation at the Puri Wirata Dive Resort & Spa

· One day diving trip to the Tulamben for two people with Atlantis International

As well as prizes some of the PADI Course Directors are even auctioning themselves in the PADI Course Director Slave Auction. The lucky winning bidder will have their own personal PADI Course Director slave for half a day to do cooking, cleaning, tank refills – you name it!

Birger Finaut from Piri Wirata Dive Resort & Spa adds, “We got involved in this event to show people, that even as a small dive centre, we can still make a difference and play our part.”

“We’re truly grateful for the fantastic support that the Bali Diving Community, Soccer Republic and our hosts for the evening, Stiff Chilli, has given the Foundation. All donations will be put to good use to protect underwater environments for future generations to enjoy,” commented Joanne Marston, Asia Pacific Manager, Project AWARE Foundation.

Tony Andrews, PADI Regional Manager said, “It’s gearing up to be a fantastic event. We hope everyone will come along and show their support.”

Tickets to the Charity Event are available at IDR 100.000 from all participating dive centres – all proceeds go to Project AWARE and include a gourmet buffet dinner.
