I think that's a cat, not a mouse....
Shhhhhhh...you will confuse him even more.

I don't know...I haven't finished spending yet. Just bought 3 APEX regs for $1200...One Apex 200 and 2 Apex 100's. Yep I said $1200...It does pay to be a DM sometimes...Two for the doubles and one for the stage. When I get to 2 stages...another reg...$720 on bp/w last March. Advanced Nitrox...$250...Deco...$350. Getting a new computer soon...$1000 at retail...Half price for me...Did I say...nevermind...Still, irregardless of the discounts...I will have spent $3000 since March...Gotta love it and I do...Worth every penny...
Oh...Did I mention IDC costs I will incur in January...$845, Instructor manual...$300...IE...But these are not tech costs...Still...

You will deffinately need to save your pennies, or else get the plastic out and make Visa happy.

total = $9000
All prices are rough estimates, becuase you can spend as much or little as you want for gear. I'd suggest NOT trying to do this 'on the cheap' though.

Your numbers seem a little high to me. From my experience:

"Double steel tanks about $350 x 2 = $700"

Don't know

"Manifold for tanks = $300"

I think the Sea-Elite manifolds can be had for $170+shipping from Divers-Supply.com

"high quality reg set = $600 x 2 = $1200 (and you probably will need more than 2 sets)"

Dive-Rite's can be had for little over half that (scubadiscounters.com). Some smaller house brands like Salvo regs are even cheaper.

"Deco bottles = $150 x 2 = $300 (then you need 2 more regs, so add another $1200)"

Again, the regs don't have to cost that much. Don't know about the tanks (I still rent mine).

"want a computer, about another $1000"

A bottom timer is enough. Less than $200.

"Adv nitrox and deco classes = $800
trimix classes = ???? (I'll estimate another $1500 for begin & adv classes)
canister HID = $1500"

For $500-600 you can get nice a 10W light. For about $1000 (give or take a little) you can get a 21W Salvo or Sartek.

"BP/W = $500"

Sounds about right, though you could probably shave off another $100 if you look around for deals.

And then you could get package discounts or buy used to save even more. Of course there are a lot of hidden costs. The little things like backup lights, boltsnaps, lube, bungee, pockets, and such add up quickly too. And then with scuba travel and cost of diving it's definately not cheap.

I have easily passed the 70,000 mark over the years
Thats the scary part. You think you are done and then you go and buy something else and for me there are a few rebreathers out there staring me in the face.

SparticleBrane:
"a few rebreathers"

I would only buy one...but so many to choose from.

Instead of buying multiple rebreathers you could wire me some money so I can afford a set of double 130s...:D
