Saw a diver yesterday take off his fins at 20ft and stand on top of a coral head. Then we had a boat fly by our dive flag when we were right under it. And last but not least we saw a boat drop anchor right next to the reef instead of using one of the permanent moorings. Just another great dive on Oahu.

Use that speargun..........they wont do it again.

Given your examples, I'd say the title of the thread could be considered a rhetorical question ...

That's insane! I'd never take off my fins before standing on a coral head.

What if they were new fins? You wouldn't want to scratch them all up would you?

Hope they weren't full foot fins.....well.....change my mind...hope they were and he/she got all cut up!!!!

If you assume all people are total morons, it makes life much simpler. Trust me....I've spent the past 8 years cleaning up after other peoples mistakes as an EMT and respiratory therapist. I have realized that, as Goethe said, "all things great and intelligent are in the minority." If you need further evidence of how stupid people can be: www.darwinawards.com

I think the title of the thread pretty much spells it out. People are NOT thinking.

Once, on a cruise excursion, before snorkeling in Roatan, the dive masters sternly admonished us prior to entering the water "Do NOT stand, brush against or otherwise touch the coral." They repeatedly explained the reasons why, until we all understood.

After snorkeling, while standing on the beach, we witnessed 3 guides screaming at a guy, STANDING ON THE CORAL, "Get off the corallllllllllllllll." He waved at the nice men who were calling hello to him. They repeatedly called, "Get off the corrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaallllllllllllll!" He continued to wave... until eventually someone went to him and got him off. And, everyone thinks STEVO is a jackass...

I was doing a shore dive in Bonaire last week and my buddy and I were attempting an entry to swim out to the Hooker. The waves were rougher than normal for the West side..well anyway..I managed to get in the water past the little drop off of shore rocks..but was still getting pounded. My buddy was a little hesitant stepping down into ground she couldnt see and consequently got knocked to her arse..she then couldnt get up and I being the good buddy I am...was laughing my butt off because she kept getting nailed by the waves....I was about 10-15 feet away..just laughing...

A not kitted up diver nearby came by her and helped her up and she finally came out to me...they probably thought I was the buddy of the year for laughing at my buddy as she was getting pounded by the waves...lolol

They ended up not diving there after watching our entry...lol.

So here is a non-Kudos to me for not thinking of helping my buddy out and laughing instead. :)
