I got a question. Im an engineering student in upstate NY. Im working on the development of a new product and I need to know what the lower end plastic paddle dive fins are made out of. That is what kind of plastic. Ive been trying to get ahold of companies such as scubapro, mares, dacor, sherwood and they prove to little help in answering my questions. Most of there products are made oversees and no one in the american offices have any clue.
Thanks for your help
Doug

I believe several different materials are used depending upon the manufacturer and even model of fins.

Try Tabata...(they make TUSA)...and have several different types of fins...head office is in the orient but their internet site should be easy enough to direct you accordingly.

Or...you could just stick with good old vulcanized rubber...:D

A special form of low-cost, hypoallergenic pudding combined with recycled cabbage patch kids.

That's one of the secrets Big Scuba doesn't want you to know.

The good ones are made from rubber. I believe the technical term for the material from which the others are made is tupperware.

Not to correct Walter, but I believe that there are two kinds of materials:

Non splits are made of sugar, spice, and everything nice, while splits are made of snips and snails and puppy dog tails.

:D

And you don't wanna know what the material Twin Jets are made out of was/is used for ;)

Depending on the manufacturer, fins can be made of: Polyurethane, rubber, thermal plastic, a combination of rubber and thermal plastic or polyurethane.. or if they are really slick, wood! ;)
