Spring break was a real treat this year. The girlfriend and I took a trip to Maui to do some out-of-this-world diving! After two days I had over 250 pictures. This is my first dive report, so I hope the pics come through...
First we went with Mike Severn's to Molokini. Of course Molokini was gorgeous, but it was their second dive site, North Nahuna, that held some real treasures. First was this Harlequin (Hymenocera picta).
What a treat! Its very possible that I have seen more than 500 turtles since I started diving here, but I have NEVER seen anything like this. Amazing!
This sandbar shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus) was another first on scuba for me. Our second day of diving at Molokai put us in a really sharky spot. Instead of ignoring us like I usually hear of sandbars doing, it came straight at me and my girlfriend. What an encounter!
This was the real treat for me. We saw a total of 8 scalloped hammerheads (Sphyrna lewini) here, all between 8 and 12 feet long. There were so many sharks around that we had a couple of hammerheads circling under us as we were doing our safety stop.
