I just finished Whalefall by Daniel Kraus. I gave it three stars on Amazon but divers may enjoy it a little more than that. The main character is SCUBA diving almost the entire book and there are a ton of references to gear and technique. I did not see any real inaccuracies so the author must be a diver. I loved the premise but found that the book dragged a bit near the end. I think it is worth reading from the library.

I just finished it a couple of days ago. I found it to be pretty improbable (a modern-day Jonah), and a bit unbelievable that the human stuff the whale had ingested was just what the kid needed. Anyway. I also was a bit confused when the author referred to the whole reg set up as the “octopus,” unless that’s a regional term of art. I have always heard the octopus as being the spare second stage. I gave it 3 stars, too.

I listened to the audiobook, got it from my local public library. I enjoyed it just for the various references to dive gear and procedures. It isn't the best piece of literature out there, but I liked it enough to finish it and recommend it to my dive buddies.
