WarmWaterDiver: you said,

I really like these boots, especially for warm water shore diving . . .

. . .I've given up on shorties for the time being, after one trip to Curacao when the paired bell siphonophores were abundant, then a close encounter with a sea wasp on Bonaire.

WarmWaterDiver,
thank you for the tip on the ever playful sea wasp, Lord knows I'll try to steer clear. :)

As far as boots, my buddy use to wear those very seasoft boots until I turned him onto Mares Trilastic boots. The Mares are more rugged than any Waterproof or Henderson boots I've ever owned or borrowed. I wear the Trilastic 5.0mm, not the 6.5mm, but outside of the thickness, the two boots are identical.

I was fiddling with my then-new 10w HID light, so the sea wasp was especially fond of me - that let the wife get a real good pic of it! Whoever has the strongest light beam will draw the sea wasp. I lured it away from my wife and the couple who were night diving with us, then turned off my light and rejoined them.

Funny, I switched from the 5mm Mares Avanti boots (predecessor to the Trilastic) to the 3mm SeaSoft Sunrays! The soles on the Avanti boots were nice and thick, but oddly grooved, so they had poor traction, and I have less floaty feet with the SunRays!

Booties or boots......get the THICK SOLED shoes, its mostly coral rubble and the shore entries in some spots have holes and rocks, not to mention the urchin lurking around in some of the holes.

I regularly do 3 to 5 dives a day on BON and stay 2 weeks, one is not enough, and a 3 mil does fine for me, I take both a regular and a shortie with me.

I guess this is so personal............
I just finished a week of diving in bonaire.
Wore a shorty for 1 day.
Got too hot loading gear and switched to a rashguard and shorts for the rest of the week.
3 dives a day. no problems.
