I have a Men's 2pc Wetsuit by O'Neill.. in black. Some fading on sleeves due to normal use, no tears or holes. Style 1206 It is seriously in excellent condition.. the knees are still shiny without a scratch on them... except for the fading on the top of the sleeves from shoulder down the sleeve, it looks like it's brand new.

anyway...
I was selling it on Craigslist and the guy that took a look at it scoffed at it.. He said the sun fading reduces the ability to keep in the heat....

is this true? I tried googleing it.. but couldn't find anything about it... Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks so much!

My uninformed view is that the guy is full of it.

I always thought all fading is only cosmetic and is a result of the chemical reaction of the material due to excessive sun light.

I could well be wrong though.

Thanks.. i'm hoping to find something about it being one way or the other somewhere... I was thinking he was full of it too... thanks!

i dont pay attention much to my instructor (my hubby) but isnt the neoprene what determines the warmth?

and, isnt it when you make multiple (ie, hundreds and hundreds) of dives at 60+feet then the neoprnene begins to compress and this results in a colder suit???

i could ring and ask hubby but i tend to hit automatic switch off when i hear him get techincal ;)

LOL.. compression yes.. but we've done less than 100 dives in this suit.. we used it one summer and a couple of dives in the fall/winter... probably best guess aroun 75-80 dives... i don't think it would've compressed it that much...

The issue is that he claimed the fading from the sun causes the suit to be not so warm.. he didn't mention anything about compression of the neoprene...

exaclty.... im talking HUNDREDS of dives (at least 600 dives) before hubby starts complaining that the suit is starting to get cold and you can actually feel the neoprene has compressed

on his current semidry...... the green lycra type fabric that coats the suit on the sleeves started fading about 50 dives in but this did not affect the warmth of the suit

cheers

Get a new suit with lots of colors. You'll look a lot better on the boat.

:lol
thanks y'all... I think he was just a little icked out at seeing the fade.. no idea why.. i noted it on the ad.. anyway... anyone need one?? it's up for grabs.. :lol
