Understood. I am sure you are right. At least, I hope you are. I AM sure that if I don't "get it", it will be me with a problem, not what you're saying! :)
Unfortunately it is not that simple. Diopter behaviour also depends upon your camera lens behaviour.

My dx1g can focus within 1 inch of the lens at full 70mm zoom. Adding a subsee +10 moves the focus point out to around 5 inches and results in the same size subject.

My canon g10 focuses at around 19? Inches at full 140mm zoom. Adding a subsee +10 lens moves the focus point in to around 5 inches and gives me a bigger subject.

Same lens different camera different results. I do not know why.
